November 4, 2020

For the health and safety of our on campus housing communities we strongly discourage leaving for the weekend to visit home or to travel to other areas.  If you must travel, when you return to your campus residence from being away, you are advised to limit your contact with others as much as possible until you obtain a negative result from your next routine COVID test.

When you are outside of your room, in your residence as well as outside, always follow the core prevention measures i.e., (1) wear a face-covering around others, (2) maintain at least 6-feet of physical distance, and (3) wash hands frequently. You should frequently disinfect surfaces in your residence, especially in common areas like the kitchen, living room, and bathroom (e.g., door knobs, refrigerator/drawer handles, faucets, etc.), continue to complete the Daily Symptom Check and watch for COVID-related symptoms. If you develop symptoms, contact Student Health or your primary care provider. If it is a medical emergency, call 911.

The residential experience for students living in UC Irvine Student Housing for 2020–21 looks different than in past years, as we navigate a “new normal” during the COVID-19 pandemic and adjust our plans based upon the latest guidance from public health officials.

Your safety and well-being are of paramount importance. Our staff at Student Housing remain committed to offering programs, services, and opportunities to build community with your peers and with student residential hall staff. Engagement will occur mostly online. Activities sponsored by your housing community will either be online or carefully designed to conform to campus requirements listed in the Chancellor’s Executive Directives and public health guidance.

Even after sequestration residents should continue to:

1. Practice the three basics of COVID prevention: wear a face-covering outside of your room, maintain a physical distance of six feet or more, and frequently wash your hands.  Some scientific literature suggests this means at least 6-10 times a day.    USE THE FOLLOWING IN A LINK CDC Guidelines for washing their hands Before, during, and after preparing food

During the COVID-19 pandemic, you should also clean hands:

·         After you have been in a public place and touched an item or surface that may be frequently touched by other people, such as door handles, tables, gas pumps, shopping carts, or electronic cashier registers/screens, etc.

·         Before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth because that’s how germs enter our bodies

2. Complete the Daily Symptom Check - https://students.uci.edu/daily-symptom-check.html

3. No guests or visitors in your hall/house or your room. No one is permitted in your room except you. No one who lives outside your hall/house is allowed to enter the building.

4. No In-person gatherings except for activities sponsored by your housing community and carefully designed to conform to campus requirements listed in the Chancellor’s Executive Directive, issued on July 21, 2020 and public health guidelines.

5. Schedule your routine COVID test at one of the campus testing centers.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in disciplinary action.  Learn more about Student Housing COVID-related Policies and other Student Housing policies is available on the Student Housing Website.
