Important Housing Updates for December 11th
December 11, 2020
Hello Housing Residents—you made it to the end of fall classes!
With just one week to go before winter break, you are no doubt looking forward to time away from books and computer screens. I hope your winter break provides opportunities to relax, ‘recharge your batteries’, and enjoy time with loved ones. Here are some important updates for finals week, winter break and the return to campus in January:
- We continue to respond to a post-Thanksgiving increase in positive COVID-19 cases on campus. Several recent COVID-19 cases have been linked to an exposure from family members over Thanksgiving. Please remember that undergraduate students are required to sequester through the end of the quarter. Continue to follow prevention measures so that you don’t bring the virus home and don’t get sick during a well-earned break!
- Vice Chancellor, Willie Banks, sent a message to students on December 8th, urging students who are leaving for the winter break to postpone their return to campus until January 16th, in an effort to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases on campus during winter quarter. Students were also informed that they will be required to sequester once they return from the break—for 7 days if returning on January 16th (or later) and for 14 days if returning before January 16th.
**The google form attached to that Dec 8th message has been updated with new questions. Please re-submit your plans (by Wednesday, December 16th) to remain or leave campus as well as your travel dates in the updated online form:
While this recommendation may not affect as many graduate students as undergraduates, all students are asked to report their winter break plans in the linked form above.
- Students remaining on campus for winter break must continue with weekly asymptomatic COVID-19 testing and the daily symptom check. Testing hours and locations will be limited during the break, so please schedule your appointment soon and be flexible with your dates. There will be no testing from December 23 through January 1. All testing sites re-open on January 2.
- Student Housing will be reaching out to students who are currently in quarantine or isolation on campus regarding their options during winter break.
If you have questions regarding these updates or other COVID-19-related issues in Housing, email them to HousingCovidQuestion@housing.uci.edu.
Good luck with finals and Happy Holidays!
