Important Housing Updates for December 18th
December 18, 2020
Dear Housing Residents,
Congratulations on completing fall quarter! It’s been a long 10 weeks (plus finals), and you deserve big kudos for persevering through it all! We hope you enjoy time to relax, virtually reconnect with loved ones, and recharge your batteries during the break. Please note the following reminders for both your time off and the beginning of winter quarter.
- Enjoy the time off, but please do it safely, while continuing to follow prevention measures. As you have likely heard in the local and national news, case counts and hospital admissions continue to climb. The rollout of a vaccine offers much hope for a brighter picture in the months ahead, but for right now, vigilance and adherence to recommended practices offers the best protections for your health and the health of the community.
- Please review the Student Affairs message from Dec 8th, strongly encouraging current housing residents who are leaving campus for the break to not return to campus until January 16th and to quarantine at home for 2 weeks prior to their return. Once on campus, students will be required to sequester for 7 days. Those who need to return to campus sooner (including students moving into housing for the first time on Jan 3rd) will be required to sequester for 14 days upon their return.
During sequestration, students are allowed to pick up meals, receive their weekly COVID-19 test and enjoy the outdoors in a physically distanced way, but guests, indoor gatherings and traveling off campus are not allowed. Exceptions may be made for essential activities such as health appointments and work. For a graphic guide to permitted activities, click here.
- Students remaining on campus for winter break must continue with weekly asymptomatic COVID-19 testing and the daily symptom check. Testing hours and locations will be limited during the break, so please schedule your appointment soon and be flexible with your dates. Testing will be closed Dec. 23-27, Dec. 30-31 and Jan. 1 in observance of the holidays. All testing sites re-open on January 2.
Students will need to set up new recurring weekly Asymptomatic Covid Testing appointments for winter quarter. Schedule your winter quarter appointments after December 18th by going to the Student Health Patient Portal at https://osh.chs.uci.edu. Instructions for scheduling a recurring appointment can be found here.
