Important Housing Updates for January 8th

Section 1

January 8, 2021

Dear Housing Residents,

Welcome to winter quarter! Hopefully, many of you are remaining at home until January 16th, as suggested by Vice Chancellor Banks before the break. For those who have returned to campus, welcome back! Please remember that you are in Sequestration for 14 days following your date of return to campus. Here are a few important reminders:

  1. Self-Care and Finding Support: With two more quarters in the academic calendar, it is important that we all practice self-care and reach out for support to manage the stresses of this unusual time.  The UCI Counseling Center offers a variety of options for getting help. Follow them on Facebook (/ucicounselingcenter) and Twitter(@UCICounselingCt) for the latest news. Most important—stay connected with others, even if it’s electronically or with recommended physical distancing!

  2. Sequestration: During sequestration, students are allowed to pick up meals, receive their weekly COVID-19 test and enjoy the outdoors in a physically distanced way, but guests, indoor gatherings and traveling off campus are not allowed. Exceptions may be made for essential activities such as health appointments and work. For a graphic guide to permitted activities, click here
  1. Practice Prevention:  As you have likely heard, California’s COVID-19 numbers are surging, fueled in part by holiday gatherings. With students returning to campus from many different locations, it is crucial that we all continue to follow prevention measures. Housing currently has 32 positive COVID-19 cases, and over 100 students either in isolation or quarantine. Help us contain these numbers and protect the health of our communities by conscientiously following those prevention measures.
  1. COVID-19 Testing: Students were asked to obtain a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of returning to campus. We are aware of some challenges with scheduling, but do your best to meet that requirement, then continue with your weekly asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing. If you have not yet done so, schedule your winter quarter appointments by going to the Student Health Patient Portal at https://osh.chs.uci.edu. Instructions for scheduling a recurring appointment can be found here.
