Temporary Changes to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Section 1
March 16, 2021
EXTENDED COVID-19 RELIEF FOR UC’S FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS
Dear colleagues:
Due to the pandemic, you may have ended 2020 with money in your Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) that you were not able to use. The 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act has made it possible for UC to provide relief.
UC has approved some temporary changes to support employees who are at risk of losing their FSA contributions. These temporary changes include:
Carry-over of the full remaining balance of unused 2020 and 2021 Health FSA funds for participants with a balance of at least $25
Grace period extension to use 2020 and 2021 Dependent Care FSA funds
Increase in maximum age of eligible dependents (a child’s expenses may be eligible up to age 14) for DepCare FSA
Ability to make prospective changes to your 2021 Health FSA and DepCare FSA elections without a qualifying life event
For more information and important details regarding these temporary changes, please see the article posted on UCnet along with Frequently Asked Questions.
Questions can be directed to our Employee Experience Center (EEC) at eec@uci.edu or (949) 824-0500 (Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Sincerely,
Ramona Agrela Associate Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Executive
