Housing Updates for April 30th
April 30, 2021
Hello Housing Residents!
I hope your quarter is moving along smoothly and you are enjoying the warming spring weather. I will start this week’s message by referring you to the Student Affairs email that went out last night (4/29/21), providing a number of timely Covid-related updates on vaccine availability, overcoming vaccine anxiety, uploading your vaccine record, and how to get a testing exemption once you are vaccinated.
Here are a few other important reminders:
- Vaccine mandates for Fall 2021: The University of California proposed policy to mandate COVID-19 vaccine for students, staff and faculty for Fall 2021 is under review and expected to be adopted in the coming weeks, once the FDA issues its approval of at least one vaccine and widespread availability of vaccine. You can read the University of California press release here. We encourage all students to get vaccinated now in anticipation of this new policy, and to protect yourself, your family, and your community.
- Campus COVID-19 policies still apply after vaccination – While students are to be commended for heeding the call to get vaccinated, please keep in mind that COVID prevention measures and behavioral guidelines remain in effect for all students, vaccinated or not. Violation of those policies will still be subject to a response from the Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct (OAISC).
- Face masks are still required on campus -- Although the CDC has relaxed its guidance regarding face coverings for fully vaccinated people, UCI’s executive directive on face coverings still requires face coverings on UCI-controlled property, subject to the exceptions therein or an approved accommodation. UCI will continue to review federal and state guidance and regulations, as well as campus conditions, and update campus guidelines accordingly.
- Upload your vaccine record -- Starting this week, students who are fully vaccinated (14 days after their last dose) and upload their vaccination records are no longer required to participate in the Asymptomatic Testing Program. We are happy to report that over 3,100 students have already uploaded their vaccination record and will receive verification of their test exemption from the UCI Student Health Center (SHC) via secure messaging. The ZotPass will reflect your exempt status within 24 hours of your verification. If you need assistance finding a vaccine appointment or uploading your records, call (949) 824-2300. Students should continue daily symptom checking and be evaluated for testing if they are symptomatic.
