Housing Updates for Graduate and Family Housing Residents - August 27

Section 1

August 27, 2021

August 27, 2021

Dear Graduate and Family Housing Residents:

As we move closer to fall quarter, occupancy in our GFH communities is growing, with 80% of residents already moved in. Welcome (or Welcome Back) to all of you! As occupancy ramps up, we are also seeing a rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases on campus, with eleven currently reported in on-campus Housing. It is critical that we all do our part to minimize transmission of the virus as more students return to campus, and that includes complying with the following University directives:

  1. UPLOAD your vaccine record to the Student Health Portal by September 6th. If you have only received one vaccine dose or have filed for an exemption/deferral, upload that documentation to remain in compliance.
  2. COVID-19 Testing: All students, regardless of vaccination status, who moved in to Graduate and Family Housing on or before September 6, are required to obtain a COVID-19 test at the UCI Student Center on one of the following dates: Sept 7, 8, 9 and 10, and Sept 13 and 14. Schedule your test on the Student Health Portal. All students moving in after September 7th should schedule a test within 48 hours of their arrival.
  3. SEQUESTRATION requirement for unvaccinated students on arrival to campus: Residents who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (including contract holders who do not upload their vaccination record to the UCI Student Health Portal) will be required to sequester in their unit for a minimum of seven days after move-in or until they receive two negative on-campus COVID-19 tests. They will need to test within 48 hours of arrival and receive two negative COVID tests with the second being no less than five days after the first. During sequestration, students and dependents should leave their residences only to participate in essential activities (e.g., to pick up meals or purchase food, participate in low-risk outdoor recreational activities, or obtain health care services). Unvaccinated students will continue testing weekly and continue wearing face coverings.

As noted in last week’s email, (1) There is a universal mask mandate in effect in all indoor spaces on campus; (2) All COVID-19 cases should be reported to Contact Tracing and Vaccine Navigation Services at contacttracing@uci.edu or by calling (949) 824-2300; and (3) Please start responding to the Daily Symptom Check email or install the ‘Now-Mobile’ app on your smartphone. These daily checks will continue during the fall quarter and are required for all students regardless of vaccination status. For more information on the campus response to COVID-19, visit the UCI Forward Website.

Thank you for your efforts to stay healthy and to protect the health of others in our community.
