Compliance Deadline for COVID-19 Vaccination Program is January 6

Dear colleagues:

Per the University of California Vaccination Programs Policy, effective September 1, 2022, all UCI employees must participate in applicable vaccination programs, including the COVID-19 vaccine program. Recent changes to the Policy include the ability to decline COVID-19 vaccination boosters. This applies only to boosters and does not apply to the primary series of two COVID-19 vaccinations. Please note that health care workers may not decline their first booster under a California Department of Public Health order. 

The UCI vaccination program requires, as a condition of physical presence at a University location or in a University program, that on or before the compliance date of January 6, 2023, covered individuals must: 

  1. Have your primary series, subject only to religious and medical/disability exceptions.
  2. Stay current with boosters or decline boosters. Those who prefer to decline one or more of the boosters will be permitted to do so by signing a declination statement after receiving education, and subject to non-pharmaceutical interventions specified by their locations, e.g., masking. 
  3. If you prefer to defer the currently available bivalent booster for more than 90 days after being diagnosed with or treated for COVID, you may do so by declining. When you do receive the booster and upload your vaccination information, you will be considered current.

To comply with this order, please submit your up-to-date vaccine information, exception request, or booster declination through the Campus Occupational Health Portal.

Becoming vaccinated against COVID-19 and staying current with boosters is the best way to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. The decision to relax our policy reflects the fact that the UC community has a very high level of vaccination. Thank you for doing your part to keep UCI working well.
