Orange County closes in on final yellow tier metric
Orange County reported 47 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional deaths Saturday, as the county continued to close in on qualifying for the least-restrictive tier of the state's economic reopening system.
L.A. offers appointment-free COVID-19 vaccinations
Beginning today, appointments are no longer needed for Angelenos to get COVID-19 vaccinations at any site run by the city.
California population declines for first time
California's population fell by more than 182,000 last year, the first yearly loss ever recorded for the nation's most populous state that halted a growth streak dating to its founding in 1850. The Newsom administration says California's population decline is an outlier, blaming it on the coronavirus pandemic that turned everything upside down in 2020.
No US state is reporting an increase in coronavirus cases
In the US, not a single state is reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases in the past week compared to the previous week. A majority of states — 33 — are reporting a decrease in cases and the rest are holding steady.
Parents urged to catch kids up on other shots ahead of COVID-19 vaccine rollout
With COVID-19 vaccinations possibly on the horizon for children ages 12 to 15 in the United States, pediatricians are concerned about the challenge of getting children up-to-date on their childhood vaccines and balancing that with scheduling potential COVID-19 shots.

CDC acknowledges airborne transmission
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised that airborne transmission is one of several ways the virus can spread, adding that people more than six feet away from others indoors can become infected, according to the agency’s website.
