UCI face covering guidance remains in place

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16, updated state guidance will require indoor masking only for unvaccinated individuals, with universal masking only required in specified settings. However, David M. Souleles, director of the COVID-19 Response Team, explains why UCI’s executive directive on face coverings — which requires universal masking in all indoor settings on university property — will remain in place until further notice.

UCI, UC Riverside astronomers discover galactic protocluster in early universe

An international team of astronomers, including researchers from UCI and UC Riverside, has discovered a massive cluster of young galaxies forming in the early universe. If you’d like to visit this particular protocluster, pack a really big lunch as it is about 11.8 billion light-years away from Earth.

Health officials are asking OC residents to continue following health protocols as transmission rates remain high. This comes as the state’s mask mandate is set to expire for vaccinated people. Scientists and health officials are concerned about the contagiousness of a new sublineage.
