Where cutting-edge science meets art & and nature
Located on the north side of the University of California, Irvine at the southwest corner of Jamboree Road and Campus Drive, the new UCI Medical Center will advance UCI Health’s mission to discover, teach and heal. The expansion of our healthcare campus will bring high-quality care and enable residents to unlock the next level of health through groundbreaking knowledge and serenity by way of the surrounding naturescapes.
The concept of the UCI Presidential Gateway project came to light as we considered how to navigate the ever-changing and now unprecedented healthcare landscape. The COVID-19 pandemic makes our mission more critical than ever. By expanding access and education with our game-changing model of wellness, we will create a place of hope, where cutting-edge science meets nature and inspires healing.
The overarching vision positions UCI Health for a brilliant future. The new medical center will include a 144-bed acute care hospital focused on oncology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, and spine and digestive health, along with emergency services. Joining the hospital will be the UCI Health Center for Advanced Care, home to children’s specialties and medical offices. Together, they will span nearly 800,000 square feet – a place where lives are saved and improved through personalized care and innovative procedures found only at a world-class academic health center and where patients have access to the best therapies and technologies available.
The project will revitalize the north campus area, acting as the centerpiece of UCI Presidential Gateway, a 202-acre development on the corner of Jamboree Road and Campus Drive in Irvine, adjacent to Newport Beach. It will become the western gateway to UCI, which has been named the top college “doing the most for the American dream” by The New York Times and is currently Sierra magazine’s No. 1 “Cool School.” This ambitious enhancement will extend the reach of UCI Medical Center in Orange, which features the county’s first National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and is rated the best place in Orange County to give and get care.
As a community partner, UCI Presidential Gateway will evolve into a beacon for innovation, transformation and healing, and it will bring premier-quality, leading-edge care to the coastal and southern regions of Orange County.
