The future of healthcare

The future UCI Medical Center is the next chapter in our legacy, which is grounded in UCI’s College of Health Sciences (CoHS) status as the only comprehensive teaching and research facility in the region. We see it as our duty to bring innovative healthcare solutions to Orange County, provide best-in-class care to our community and offer students at the CoHS the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the latest and greatest healthcare innovations. It’s not a question but a call to action.

As we evolve, we will focus more on wellness and prevention, and the new UCI Medical Center will be designed to foster our success. The entire medical campus – focused on providing a natural, inviting and simple space for cutting-edge research and advancements – will promote health and well-being. As always, our patients, students and the Orange County community will remain at the heart of everything we do.

The world of science is changing fast and the future UCI Medical Center in Irvine is designed to keep you and your healthcare ahead of the curve. We believe the future of healthcare looks like having a team of healthcare professionals on your side working together seamlessly as your partners in wellness. The use of data and artificial intelligence paired with integrating discovery, teaching and healing, allow the UCI Health team to serve patients and foster healthcare professionals like no other hospital can.

Facilities are built to enable interprofessional education for our CoHS students and were crafted with the future of team-based care in mind. We stop at nothing to ensure our patients have the most innovative and advanced care at the forefront of medicine, in a way that is personal to you and integrative with a healthy lifestyle.

Benefits of an Academic Health System

Members of our community and people throughout the region rely on Orange County’s only academic health system for world-class healthcare. As a teaching and research facility for our CoHS, UCI Health combines high-quality clinical care teams with state-of-the-art technology, innovative research, and a culture of ongoing learning and healthcare advancement.

To complement the resources available within the UCI Health system, we draw upon the knowledge of researchers and physicians throughout the 10-campus University of California system and teaching hospitals around the nation to make critical discoveries that advance innovation in clinical care.

With healthcare providers working in tandem with UCI's CoHS' researchers and educators, the new UCI Medical Center will provide patients with the most comprehensive, integrated care available.

At the CoHS, we are teaching future generations of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, public health practitioners and researchers to solve our community’s greatest health challenges. In doing so, we bring together nationally recognized experts in specialty areas and provide patients access to the latest medicine, treatments and clinical trials.

Our care providers do so much more than deliver healthcare; they create it. They work across departments and disciplines to develop the latest medical technologies and solutions, leveraging a breadth of perspectives and expertise and accelerating the process that brings these innovations from the lab bench to your bedside.

Why Here, Why Now?

Irvine has the fastest-growing population in Orange County, and demand is increasing for the specific surgical care and medical services that UCI offers. The future UCI Medical Center will provide patients access to the exceptional treatments, clinical trials and integrative, whole-person therapies they expect from UCI Health.

At a time when healthcare is at the forefront of our daily lives and economic growth will prove necessary for the prosperity of our community, North Campus has the potential to fundamentally transform the region’s healthcare landscape and offerings. The expansion will allow UCI Health to serve more families, improve access to healthcare in Orange County and bring an influx of skilled clinical professionals to the region.

Integrative Health

Integrative health takes a balanced approach to wellness, treating the mind, body and spirit and shifting the focus of health from illness to wellness. The entire medical center – from inpatient and outpatient accommodations to restorative landscapes – will promote health and well-being, and patients will remain at the center of everything we do.

By balancing technological progress with a humanistic model of integrative health based on prediction, prevention, personalized treatment and population health, we will be ready to serve our patients wherever they are on their healthcare journeys.

Patients will have access to the best-in-class scientific research, education and clinical care at the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, combining both traditional and contemporary medicine.

Adjacency and Access to the College of Health Sciences & Other Campus Resources

Located just 1 mile from the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, the new UCI Medical Center complex will include a hospital, emergency department, Center for Advanced Care, Center for Children’s Health, urgent care, primary care and other specialties.

The Medical Complex’s close proximity to the main campus of UCI’s CoHS promotes a first-class learning environment and establishes a strong foundation for the development of UCI research centers of excellence. It is our mission to support students as they evolve into the diverse healthcare workforce of the future and work to discover groundbreaking scientific advancements. Collaboration between the new medical center and our CoHS will further advance research, discoveries and clinical care in the entire region.

A health and wellness trail will link the UCI's CoHS to the future UCI Medical Center, bring nature into the day-to-day lives of the campus community, and allow health sciences students to be close to clinical care settings where they’ll train as a part of their programs.
