The amenities are expected to also expand public access to the arts and arts education.

Economic Benefits

  • The new UCI Medical Center is expected to contribute to the health of the local economy by creating upward of 2,500 new construction and staffing jobs. It will attract out-of-area healthcare professionals and patients, while providing new vendor and partnership opportunities for Orange County-based businesses.

Community Health Benefits

  • More people in Orange County, especially those in the southern and coastal areas, will have access to the life-enhancing therapies, advanced innovations, leading experts and complex procedures that are only found at the world’s foremost research and academic health institutions. UCI Health is the only Orange County health system powered by the University of California.
  • The new UCI Medical Center will offer unique services not found in the local community, such as the UCI Health Center for Advanced Care, the Center for Children’s Health, a nationally designated cancer center and an integrative, evidence-based approach to personalized patient care. It will also offer urgent and emergency care, adult specialties and offices devoted to oncology, neurosciences, orthopedics, and spine and digestive health.
  • The grounds surrounding the medical center will include a healing garden and naturescapes along the protected San Joaquin Marsh Reserve, where UCI researchers will continue actively studying the environment and sustainability. The property will be a place to focus on complete well-being – mind, body and soul.
  • Orange County’s population is expected to increase at a double-digit pace over the next four decades, with nearly 30 percent growth in those over the age of 65, who need healthcare most. The new medical center helps the community stay ahead of this demand. Source: https://www.ocbc.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CommIndicators_Report_091219-WEB.pdf
